Successful immigrants prepare before arrival using settlement, employment and language tools.

If you're an immigrant destined for Manitoba you should take advantage of the online tools and support services offered by province to help people make a personal plan for employment and settlement success.

After you arrive, Manitoba Start will help you put your plan in action to find the job you want.

Help us help you by researching your occupation before you move

Permanent resident status does not guarantee you employment. It is up to you to find a job and show the employer that you are qualified. It may take months to find a job, or much longer if you must upgrade your qualifications to meet Manitoba standards. If your occupation is regulated you must get a licence to work, and this process can take months or even years.

Research your occupation using the Working in Manitoba Tool

(ex: teacher, nurse)

The Working in Manitoba Tool gives you a detailed report on your occupation – job description and duties, wage rates, advertised job openings throughout Manitoba, skill, language and licensing requirements, education, training and bridging programs and helpful resources including career advice from successful immigrants.

To find the latest information and planning tools visit Immigrate Manitoba: Prepare to Move.

Here's some of the actions you should take while still in your home country to prepare yourself, so you can adjust to life and find the job you want in Manitoba:
  • Improve your English with free online lessons
  • Use the MPNP interactive planning guide to research your occupation and take action, before you move, to meet qualification requirements.
  • Research your destination community including local immigrant services, housing, schools, cost of living.
