Jollof Life Foods and Restaurant Ltd. is seeking a dependable and organized Cook (Specialty Cuisine) to support food preparation activities within our African restaurant environment in Winnipeg. The successful candidate will assist with preparing authentic African meals, maintaining food quality standards, supporting kitchen operations, and helping ensure efficient service in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
This is a permanent full-time position located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Duties
• Prepare and cook a variety of meals with a focus on authentic African dishes such as jollof rice, soups, stews, and grilled items • Carry out food preparation from start to finish, including seasoning, portioning, and plating in line with established recipes • Maintain consistent food quality by following traditional preparation methods and ensuring proper use of ingredients and spices • Check ingredients for freshness and ensure proper storage of perishable and specialty food items • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food preparation areas • Follow food safety and sanitation procedures during all stages of food preparation • Support inventory monitoring by tracking ingredient usage and notifying when supplies need replenishment • Assist in ensuring kitchen operations run efficiently during busy service periods
Qualifications
• Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience • 1 year to less than 2 years of cooking experience in a restaurant or food service environment • English language ability required • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment • Strong organizational and time management skills • Dependable and team-oriented approach to work • Experience preparing African or culturally specific cuisine is considered an asset • Familiarity with traditional spices, ingredients, and specialty food products is considered an asset • Ability to maintain food quality and consistency in a busy kitchen setting
