Job Summary The Landscape and Construction Labourer is an essential team member responsible for executing a wide variety of tasks on both residential and commercial job sites. This role involves everything from building stunning patios and retaining walls to planting trees and preparing properties for sod. Duties

Key Responsibilities 1. Hardscape & Construction Installation

  • Assist in the construction of patios, walkways, driveways, and retaining walls using pavers, natural stone, and segmental retaining wall units.
  • Perform site preparation tasks including excavation, grading, and compacting base materials (gravel, sand).
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools such as plate compactors, masonry saws, jackhammers, and drills.
  • Assist with the installation of drainage systems, french drains, and catch basins.
  • Mix and haul mortar, concrete, or other materials as needed.
2. Softscape & Planting
  • Install trees, shrubs, perennials, and sod according to landscape plans.
  • Prepare soil by tilling, amending, and grading to ensure healthy plant establishment.
  • Spread mulch, soil, and decorative stone.
  • Assist with the installation of erosion control blankets or silt fencing.
3. General Site Labor & Maintenance
  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment at the shop and job sites.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site at all times (daily site clean-up).
  • Operate company vehicles (trailers, trucks) safely and legally (as qualified).
  • Assist with job site setup and break down at the end of each day.
  • Support maintenance crews during peak seasons (spring clean-ups, fall leaf removal, snow removal) if needed.
4. Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and OSHA standards.
  • Consistently wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and high-visibility clothing.
  • Participate in daily safety talks ("Toolbox Talks") and report any hazards or incidents immediately to the supervisor.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: No prior experience is required—we are willing to train the right candidate. However, 6+ months of experience in landscaping, construction, or a related labor-intensive field is a strong asset.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods (8-10 hour days) in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, humidity).
  • Strength: Must be able to frequently lift and carry 50-80 pounds (e.g., bags of concrete, pavers, large plants).
  • Reliability: Consistent punctuality and a strong work ethic are non-negotiable. The team depends on you showing up ready to work.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation to and from the shop or job site is required.
  • License: Valid driver's license with a clean record is preferred (to drive trucks/trailers), but not always required for all positions.
