Description
Start your journey in the exciting world of horse racing ! Learn how to be a horse race groom through this paid Racehorse Groom Training Program offered by HBPA of Manitoba with funding from the Government of Manitoba! Participants will receive:
- 1 week of classroom instruction
- 3 weeks of hands-on barn training
Duties
Being a racehorse groom is a physically demanding job that requires dedication. You must be able to work in all weather elements from wintery conditions during spring training, to warmer temperatures in the summer. The course will teach you how to muck stalls, provide proper fresh bedding, feed, brushing and maintaining horse cleanliness, cleaning tack, and basic monitoring of health issues in horses and more!
Qualifications
- Applicants must be between 16 and 29 years old
- No previous horse experience is necessary, but is considered an asset
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to get to/from Assiniboia Downs Racetrack for early-morning
- Must be dedicated and hard-working
- Must be a team player and also able to work independently
- Must be able to meet physically demanding requirements in all weather elements.
- Must have a passion for animals, specifically horses
