Description

The Surveyor will be responsible for performing field surveys and supporting the preparation, coordination, and delivery of surveying services for ODK Engineering projects. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently in the field while also collaborating with engineers, project managers, contractors, clients, and other members of the ODK team. This position may involve travel throughout Manitoba and work in northern, rural, and remote First Nation communities.

Duties

  • Perform construction layout, topographic, legal-support, as-built, infrastructure, and site surveys.
  • Establish and verify survey control, benchmarks, elevations, coordinates, property information, and construction reference points.
  • Complete layout for buildings, roads, utilities, civil infrastructure, foundations, earthworks, and other construction activities.
  • Perform GPS/GNSS, total station, and conventional surveying activities.
  • Collect accurate field data and maintain clear survey notes and records.
  • Complete existing-condition and topographic surveys for engineering and architectural design.
  • Perform quantity, grade, elevation, and earthwork verification as required.
  • Support subdivision, land development, infrastructure, and community planning projects.
  • Prepare and transfer field data for use in CAD, Civil 3D, GIS, and other design applications.
  • Review drawings, specifications, site plans, and construction documents prior to completing field layout.
  • Coordinate surveying activities with ODK project managers, engineers, architectural staff, contractors, and clients.
  • Identify discrepancies between field conditions and design information and communicate issues promptly to the project team.
  • Assist with the preparation of survey plans, sketches, reports, field records, and project documentation.
  • Maintain and care for survey instruments, equipment, vehicles, and other company assets.
  • Follow ODK Engineering health and safety policies and applicable Manitoba workplace safety requirements.
  • Work respectfully and professionally with First Nation leadership, community representatives, contractors, clients, and project stakeholders.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Diploma, certificate, degree, or equivalent experience in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering technology, or a related discipline.
  • Previous field surveying experience.
  • Experience using GPS/GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, data collectors, and survey software.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center or similar platforms considered an asset.
  • Experience with construction layout, topographic surveys, civil infrastructure, utilities, or land development.
  • Strong understanding of survey calculations, elevations, coordinates, control networks, and construction drawings.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work in northern and remote locations when required.
Registration or eligibility for registration with an applicable surveying, geomatics, or engineering technology professional organization would be considered an asset. Experience working on projects involving First Nations, Manitoba Hydro, utilities, transmission/distribution infrastructure, municipalities, roads, community infrastructure, or northern construction would also be considered an asset.
